scrutiny

I was seriously scrutinizing a lunch menu from a potential preschool that I toured this afternoon.  Chicken hot dog?  Mac and cheese with ham and peas?  I started to wonder if the food was organic — until I realized I was reviewing the menu while sitting at a McDonald’s where I had just ordered a large order of French Fries and two hot Apple Pies.  Why two Apple Pies?  Because two only cost $1.19 — I couldn’t bring myself to only order one.  I don’t even know if it was an option.

salad dressing and cereal

I love trying new food!  Two exceptions to this is salad dressing and cereal.  I always feel anxious when buying a new salad dressing or new cereal because it’s such a big commitment!

Well folks, I am two for two!

I usually only buy Brianna’s Poppy Seed dressing but decided to venture out and get their Champagne Caper Vinaigrette and it is yum!

Then, instead of our usual Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cocoa Krispies, Honey Nut Cheerios rotation, I decided to try the new Honey Kix.  Another win!  It reminds me of the old Kix before it got too corn tasting.

Ramen Crust Pizza

Is this a thing, now?  First the ramen burger, now the ramen pizza?  What’s next, ramen tacos?  Mmmm…

genova delicatessen

We had ten minutes to spare before my monthly prenatal checkup so we stopped at Genova Deli to pick up some sandwiches. The line was strangely long (at 4 o’clock in the afternoon!) so we just grabbed some premade Honey Turkey sandwiches from the cafe. They were really good! A solid sandwich. I couldn’t pinpoint why it was so good until it dawned on me that I haven’t had mayo on a sandwich in years. Good stuff.

Fried Shrimp Rolls @ Thanh Ky

We went to Vien Huong and Thanh Ky on back to back weekends and I think I can finally say with confidence that I like Thanh Ky more.  I’m generally not a stickler for cleanliness at restaurants but last time we were at Vien Huong I just kind of got grossed out.  Maybe it’s because I went to use their restroom or because I saw them fanning out all of their chopsticks to air dry.  Thanh Ky just feels SOO much cleaner.  And!  I really like the Fried Shrimp Rolls pictured above.  A little fried, crispy goodness goes really well with a hot bowl of noodle soup.  #1 if you want egg noodles, #9 if you want ho fun.
